Writing into literacy short summary

Harvard scholar Charles Reid's work in the 1970s helped unlock the secrets of what children were saying. He noticed that there were logical patterns in what they were writing and that these represented the sound structure of their spoken language. Charles believed that children were rewriting the language they were using when they wrote. Decades of research later confirmed that this developmental trajectory continues through their writing. In the US, about 2/3 of kids are not proficient in reading by the time they're in 4th grade. This is a crisis acknowledged by the schools over the last two decades. However, despite all the attention that reading has received, writing is still a significant issue in the country. Early in childhood, kids start to learn to read and write correctly. This is very important, as it's also before they start school. We've also heard a lot about how important it is to teach kids to read. Despite all the attention that reading and writing have received, little is being done about how important it is to teach children to write. According to studies, children engaged in writing are more likely to develop a deeper understanding of how writing works. They're also more likely to develop important early literacy skills. It's no surprise that children engaged in writing are more likely to develop a deeper understanding of how writing works. They're also more likely to develop important early literacy skills.
