Learning Log 5

Chapter 3

After reading chapter 3, something that really stood out to me was the important benefits of writing within disciplines. When writing within disciplines, it not only brings more than literacy and communication advantages, but it also enhances the brain intake, processing, retraining and retrieving information. I thought this was really important because it deepens the students learning and creativity. One example when writing within science is to not let students just copy notes but have them write stories about the process and connections they have made. One example of writing within history and social studies is responding to current events in their journals, timelines and research on topics to expand new learning. Writing within math was said could be the trickiest but some examples would be open ended questions where students would have to explain, justify, describe and estimate.
